Rocky Marciano Stamp

AAIB

Stamp . . .

it´s the only time

Rocky got Licked!

It took seven years and the concerted effort of many, many people, but the approval of the Rocky Marciano Commemorative Stamp became a reality during the month of February 1998 when the ballots were counted and Rocky Marciano took the top vote in the field of Sports.

The movement was initiated by The American Association for the Improvement of Boxing (AAIB), headed by Stephen B. Acunto, who believed that the undefeated champ should be honored the same as Joe Louis and Roberto Clemente in the field of Sports.

Thousands of signatures were collected and were subsequently delivered to Washington to the national president of the Order of the Sons of Italy, the United Italian Veterans, and to the United National Foundation.

A letter to Marciano´s son, Rocky, Jr. brought the good news that the Marciano commemorative stamp would be issued in April 1999.

A celebration of the Rocky Marciano commemorative postal stamp was held at the Rocky Marciano monument on the grounds of the Antonio Meucci Lodge, in White Plains, New York, attended by many aficionados of the sport, as well as many boxers, politicians, media people. It was truly a glorious day.
